Twelve Questions to Ask a Digital Agency Before You Sign

Most agency relationships fail for reasons that were visible in the first meeting. These questions surface them early.

Ownership questions

Who owns the ad accounts, the website code, the analytics property and the content? The answer should be you, in every case, with full admin access from day one.

Team questions

Who will actually do the work, and will you meet them? Pitch teams and delivery teams are often different people. Ask for the name of the person who will handle your account daily.

Reporting questions

What will the monthly report contain, and can you see a real example from another client with the numbers redacted? Vague answers here predict vague reporting later.

Strategy questions

What would you do in the first 30 days, and why that rather than something else? An agency that gives the same 30-day plan to every client is running a template, not a strategy.

Exit questions

What is the notice period, and what happens to the work if we stop? Long lock-ins with no exit documentation are a warning sign. Good agencies keep clients through results, not contracts.
